The Lower Republican Natural Resources District is based in Alma, Neb. and is comprised of Furnas, Harlan and Franklin Counties, most of Webster County and part of Nuckolls County. There are approximately 1.5 million acres in the District and the entire District lies within the lower reaches of the Republican River watershed.

Funded primarily by property taxes, the District also receives federal cost-share, state grants and special assessments. Nearly half the budget goes to erosion control, 15 percent to recreation and wildlife, 10 percent to water quality, 5 percent to water supply, 5 percent to general administration and 5 percent to information and education.
